The Carroll County Water Authority continues to plan and prepare for additional water supplies to serve Carroll County’s current and future population. In 2021, after over a decade of pursuit, the Authority obtained the Section 404 permit and water withdrawal permits necessary to construct the Indian Creek Reservoir near Bowdon, Georgia which will provide 6 million gallons of additional water supply per day. The dam for the Indian Creek Reservoir will replace an existing USDA Natural Resources Conservation Service (NRCS) dam with a larger, safer structure resulting in an approximately 401-acre water supply reservoir. A location map showing the proposed Indian Creek Reservoir and other associated components is below. The Authority is coordinating with NRCS on potential funding assistance which requires the Authority to prepare an Environmental Impact Statement for the project under NRCS’s guidelines. As a part of the process, the Authority invites public participation in the scoping and planning phase. There was a public meeting on May 1, 2023 at 6pm at Copeland Hall, 103 Barr Avenue, Bowdon, Georgia. The presentation given at the meeting is below and the video of the meeting is available through this link: Video of May 1, 2023 Meeting. The public scoping participation period ended on June 1, 2023 and responses to comments were provided.
On August 30, 2023, the Natural Resources Conservation Service published a Notice of Intent to Prepare an Environmental Impact Statement for the Lower Little Tallapoosa River Watershed, Carroll County, Georgia. Comments to this NOI were accepted through October 16, 2023 and responded to thereafter.
A second public meeting was held virtually on November 20, 2024 at 11am to review the Draft Environmental Impact Statement.
